*This post originally appeared on

If you’re a car lover then the best place to be is behind the wheel of a car. Next to that, though, the second best place to be is at a car show. Every year there are hundreds of car shows held throughout the world. Car shows give manufacturers the opportunity to reveal the latest technology, display new concepts, and measure what consumers find exciting. Below are ten of the world’s best auto shows.

Tokyo Motor Show

The Tokyo Motor Show is held biennially. Tokyo is one of the most exciting cities in the world, and its motor show is never a letdown. Since the Tokyo Motor Show is only held biennially it always draws a huge crowd of car enthusiasts. The motor show has a reputation for highlighting concept vehicles more so than production models, so be prepared for some eye-popping entries. The next Tokyo Motor Show is scheduled for this October.

North American International Auto Show

Every year the North American International Auto Show is held in Detroit, Michigan, the capital of the American automotive world. Consumers often get their first look at the newest Ford and General Motors vehicles at this show. The show also hosts the award ceremonies for the truck and North American car of the year.

Chicago Auto Show

In recent years the Chicago Auto Show has become more popular than the North American International Auto Show. At each show, attendees get to see more than 1,000 vehicles which makes it the largest auto show in the United States. The show is typically held at the McCormack Place convention complex.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Every summer the Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place in West Sussex, England. The auto show lasts for three days and usually attracts 100,000 attendees. It’s held on the grounds of Goodwood House, a country house built around 1600. The grounds are important to British automotive history because they are home to the Goodwood Circuit.

Pebble Beach Car Week

Pebble Beach Car Week features some of the world’s rarest vehicles. The auto show, which runs for a week, is known to attract celebrities and a number of the richest people in the world. During the event, cars are regularly auctioned off for enormous sums.

Paris Motor Show

The biennial Paris Motor Show has the distinction of being the first motor show to ever take place. It’s also one of the most popular auto shows in the world. The next show will take place in 2018, and it’s sure to feature some of the world’s best-designed automobiles.

4 of the Best Car Websites

The internet has no shortage of car websites. In general, I stick to four sites. Check them out below.

Autoweek is a great site for car reviews and news. It also has a helpful buyer’s guide.

Autonews focuses on the business side of the automotive industry. Their mission is “to be the primary source of industry news, data and understanding for the industry’s decision-makers interested in North America” (About Us).

Motor Trend

Motor Trend is similar to Autoweek. Both sites cover the same general car news and have buyer’s guides. I like visiting both, though, because the sites do feature unique content that’s worth checking out.

Road & Track

Road & Track is great for motor sport news. It also has a lot of videos that are great to watch.

4 Classic American Cars

Dan Lussier: Cars

America is home to some of the world’s most classic cars. Beginning with the Ford Model T, American ingenuity has led to numerous innovations such as automatic transmission and the car stereo. This post looks at some of the most classic American cars and their history.

Tucker 48

The Tucker 48 takes its name from its inventor, Preston Tucker, and the year it was produced: 1948. 1948 is actually the only year it was produced; only 51 cars were created before the company folded. Hagerty Classic Car Insurance values the Tucker 48 at $1.4 million if it’s in “fair” condition, and the price goes up for cars in better condition.

One innovative feature of the Tucker 48 was its third headlight which sat in the middle of the two traditional headlights. The third headlight activated when the car turned. Each Tucker featured different designs than the one built before it. As the car was produced, engineers experimented with design concepts and improved upon their ideas.

Cadillac Eldorado

Over the years Cadillac has produced a number of famous cars. One of the most famous, though, is the Cadillac Eldorado, which was produced from 1953 to 2002. The first generation of Cadillac Eldorados came equipped with the standard features of the day, such as heating and powered windows. Elvis Presley was a big fan of Cadillacs. In 1967, he purchased a Topaz Gold Firemist Eldorado which he later shot when it stopped working properly.

For many years the Eldorado was the most expensive car that Cadillac offered. Each generation of Eldorados featured a different design, but the 1953 design was the most famous. Today, a 1953 Eldorado in excellent condition can fetch up to nearly $200,000.

Chevrolet Corvette

In 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette was introduced as a display model at the New York Auto Show. However, GM decided to sell it to the public after it received a lot of interest. In 1955, the Corvette began to come with a V8 engine, a welcome addition that made the car faster and more reliable.

NASA astronauts were some of the Corvette’s most famous owners. Take a look at this article to learn more about the history behind the Corvette and America’s space explorers. The most expensive Corvette ever purchased is the 1967 L88 Coupe. In 2014 it was sold for $3.8 million at auction.

Ford Mustang

The original “pony car” appeared in 1964. In order to make it more affordable, it shared many of its engineering features with the Falcon. At first, the Mustang could be purchased as either a coupe or a convertible. In its first year of production, Ford sold 126,538 units, and in 1965 the company sold 559,451 units.

As a result of the Mustang’s success, Ford had many competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, and Plymouth Barracuda. Ford refined many of the Mustang’s features, and the car managed to sell well in spite of the increased competition. 2015 marked the Mustang’s sixth generation. Since the vehicle’s first appearance it has been associated with racing. Take a look at this list to learn about some of the fastest Mustangs ever built.
